What do you do when your daughter asks for a song from her mom for her birthday?

Simple: you sit down and write it. But before I could start, I needed a theme. And it didn’t take long to realize: the heart of this song would be the Blood of the Lamb.

Why?

Because lately, the Blood of Jesus has taken on a whole new, deep significance in our lives – in my daughter’s life and in my own. I now speak the Blood of Jesus daily over my family in prayer. My daughter does the same with her son before he heads off to school in the morning. It has become a natural part of our spiritual routine.

I consciously call the Blood of Jesus to mind. For me, it’s a shield. A spiritual weapon against evil. In moments of fear, temptation, or conflict, I declare the Blood of Jesus over my life. I actively take hold of spiritual authority. I focus not on my own limitations, but on God’s power.

The Blood of Jesus is for me a vivid expression of His love and total surrender. When I acknowledge that His precious Blood was shed for me too, gratitude and trust grow in my heart – even in the toughest situations. His Blood strengthens my courage. It gives me peace. It steadies me from within.

Yet, the Blood of Jesus is still greatly underestimated by many believers today. Jesus wants us to recognize the incredible power in His Blood:

  • Spiritual authority over sin, death, and evil

  • Freedom from guilt

  • A life lived in grace

  • Victory over the final power of death

  • Access to eternal life

  • Protection, strength, and resilience against spiritual attacks and temptations

This song is meant to remind us exactly of that: Of the precious Blood of Jesus, shed for us. Of the power it holds. And to bring glory to the King of Kings – the one who alone saves and gives eternal life: Jesus Christ.

He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. No one comes to God the Father except through Him. (cf. John 14:6)

Biblical Foundation of the Song

The song draws on the following passages, some directly referenced, others interpreted:

Passover in Egypt: Exodus 12:1–30

Prophecy of the coming Lamb: Isaiah 53:5–6; John 1:29

The mystery of forgiveness – life is in the blood: Romans 6:23; Leviticus 17:11; Hebrews 9:22

Jesus as Redeemer through His Blood: Ephesians 1:7; 1 John 1:7; Isaiah 53:5; 1 Peter 1:18–19

Redemption for people from all nations: Revelation 5:9–10

You can listen to the song here. And if you’d like to read along or sing along – here are the full lyrics to "Covered By The Blood Of The Lamb":

Swallowed by darkness, lay the land of Egypt

The air was full of tension and fear

Questions blew through the streets on the wind

When will it end, what comes next

Blessed with light in their homes

The Israelites slaughtered the Passover

A lamb was taken

Flawless without a blemish

Its blood smeared with hyssop on the doorposts

A crimson sign set for their protection

And death passed over

Not because they deserved it

But because they were covered

Yet this was only a foretaste

A glimpse of what was still to come

For centuries later

Another lamb would be ready for slaughter

Not in the land of Egypt

But on a hill called Golgotha

And his blood would mark no doorposts

But a cross

The Lamb of God

Slain for humanity

At Passover

The wages of sin is death

It demands a price only blood can pay

For life is in the blood

And without its shedding no forgiveness is possible

Oh oh oh oh oh

I'm covered by the blood of the Lamb

God's only Son

Oh oh oh oh oh

Covered by the blood of the Lamb

Jesus Christ, God's only Son

Jesus, I trust in Your blood

Which washes over me like a river

Shielding my soul eternally

Your blood is my holy garment

It delivered my soul out of the enemy's hand

Yes, I'm covered by the blood of the Lamb

God's only Son

Covered by the blood of the Lamb

God's only Son

There is power in the blood of Jesus

Eternal life is found in it

It shields from judgment's fire

And restores what sin was meant to destroy

Oh oh oh oh oh

I'm covered by the blood of the Lamb

God's only Son

Oh oh oh oh oh

Covered by the blood of the Lamb

Jesus Christ, God's only Son

Jesus, I trust in Your blood

Which washes over me like a river

Shielding my soul eternally

Your blood is my holy garment

It delivered my soul out of the enemy's hand

Yes, I'm covered by the blood of the Lamb

God's only Son

Covered by the blood of the Lamb

God's only Son

Jesus, You were pierced for our transgressions

Crushed for our iniquities

You were slain

And purchased us for God with Your blood

Out of every tribe and language

People and nation

You made us kings and priests for our God

You covered us with Your precious blood

And by Your wounds we are healed

Oh oh oh oh oh

I'm covered by the blood of the Lamb

God's only Son

Oh oh oh oh oh

Covered by the blood of the Lamb

Jesus Christ, God's only Son

Jesus, I trust in Your blood

Which washes over me like a river

Shielding my soul eternally

Your blood is my holy garment

It delivered my soul out of the enemy's hand

Yes, I'm covered by the blood of the Lamb

God's only Son

Covered by the blood of the Lamb

God's only Son

Oh oh oh oh oh

Oh oh oh oh

Oh oh oh

Thank You, Jesus, for Your blood

It's so precious

And shows all the love You have for me

Oh oh oh

Oh oh oh oh

Oh oh oh oh

Oh oh oh

I'm covered by the blood of the Lamb

God's only Son

Oh oh

Oh oh

Oh oh
