No Power Can Withstand
The story of the healing of the Gerasene demoniac is one of my favorite stories in the Bible. Every time I read it, it moves me deeply. So it was a heartfelt desire of mine to bring this story to life in my new song.
What fascinates me most is the demons’ reaction to Jesus. They recognize him instantly. No argument, no doubt—they know exactly who he is: the Son of God, the one to whom all authority belongs. And that knowledge terrifies them. They scream, they beg, they even try to twist God’s name to their advantage—but it doesn’t work. Jesus remains calm. Clear. Unshakable.
And then it happens—the moment that changes everything: with a single command, he frees this man. A man who was completely broken, isolated, tormented, hopeless—suddenly gets a fresh start. Peace. Dignity. Clarity. This scene shows me so clearly who Jesus is: not just someone who speaks beautiful words, but someone with real authority. Someone with power over the darkest of places. He saves. He restores.
And this thread runs through the Gospels again and again. Jesus’ life and work aren’t just stories—they’re historically witnessed, tangible, real. His words, his actions, his love—they have lost none of their power. Every time, I’m fascinated anew by how he meets people. How he loves. How he transforms.
And that’s exactly why I wrote this song: to remind people who Jesus really is—that he has all authority, that his power rules over every darkness. His name isn’t just a name—in his name is power, salvation, freedom, healing. Today, here and now, we can experience that power, trust in his name, and be carried by him.
Jesus
His name alone carries authority.
In Him is life, liberation, and salvation.
This song is based on the following Bible verses (WEB). Some are quoted directly, while others are paraphrased or used as the thematic foundation.
➡️ Mark 5:1-20
They came to the other side of the sea, into the country of the Gadarenes. When he had come out of the boat, immediately a man with an unclean spirit met him out of the tombs. He lived in the tombs. Nobody could bind him any more, not even with chains, because he had been often bound with fetters and chains, and the chains had been torn apart by him, and the fetters broken in pieces. Nobody had the strength to tame him. Always, night and day, in the tombs and in the mountains, he was crying out, and cutting himself with stones. When he saw Jesus from afar, he ran and bowed down to him, and crying out with a loud voice, he said, “What have I to do with you, Jesus, you Son of the Most High God? I adjure you by God, don’t torment me.” For he said to him, “Come out of the man, you unclean spirit!” He asked him, “What is your name?” He said to him, “My name is Legion, for we are many.” He begged him much that he would not send them away out of the country. Now on the mountainside there was a great herd of pigs feeding. All the demons begged him, saying, “Send us into the pigs, that we may enter into them.” At once Jesus gave them permission. The unclean spirits came out and entered into the pigs. The herd of about two thousand rushed down the steep bank into the sea, and they were drowned in the sea. Those who fed the pigs fled, and told it in the city and in the country. The people came to see what it was that had happened. They came to Jesus, and saw him who had been possessed by demons sitting, clothed, and in his right mind, even him who had the legion; and they were afraid. Those who saw it declared to them what happened to him who was possessed by demons, and about the pigs. They began to beg him to depart from their region. As he was entering into the boat, he who had been possessed by demons begged him that he might be with him. He didn’t allow him, but said to him, “Go to your house, to your friends, and tell them what great things the Lord has done for you and how he had mercy on you.” He went his way, and began to proclaim in Decapolis how Jesus had done great things for him, and everyone marveled.
➡️ 1. John 4:4
You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because greater is he who is in you than he who is in the world.
➡️ Philippians 2:9–11
Therefore God also highly exalted him, and gave to him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, those on earth, and those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
➡️ Colossians 2:15
Having stripped the principalities and the powers, he made a show of them openly, triumphing over them in it.
➡️ John 14:13–14
Whatever you will ask in my name, I will do it, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you will ask anything in my name, I will do it.
➡️ Luke 10:19
Behold, I give you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy. Nothing will in any way hurt you.
➡️ Matthew 28:18
Jesus came to them and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to me in heaven and on earth.“
➡️ Psalm 110:1
Yahweh says to my Lord, “Sit at my right hand, until I make your enemies your footstool for your feet.
➡️ 1. Corinthians 15:25
For he must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet.

He has on his garment and on his thigh a name written, “KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.”
➡️ Matthew 6:13
…..for yours is the Kingdom, the power, and the glory forever. Amen

Lyrics
The darkness raged, knowing He was on His way
Reaching the shore, Jesus’ feet kissed the soil
The shadows screamed, but He walked on, unafraid
He came to meet a man from Gerasa
A soul untamed, roaming among the tombs
His fury carried by the wind, his cries echoing through the hills
When he saw Jesus, he ran and bowed before Him
Crying out with a loud voice
What have I to do with You, Jesus, Son of the Most High God
I beg You, by God, do not torment me
Jesus, unimpressed, commanded the unclean spirits to come out
But the spirits begged Him
Do not send us away from this land
Let us enter the herd of swine grazing nearby
At once He gave His permission
And the spirits came out, entering the swine
Immediately, two thousand ran madly
Plunging down the steep bank into the sea
Devoured by the waves, their furious cries gone
He who had been possessed by demons
Clothed and in his right mind
Now sat grateful beside Jesus
The One who lives within God’s children
Stronger is He than the powers of this world
Oh, His beautiful, holy name is Jesus
Yes, His glorious name is Jesus
Oh, Son of the Most High God
You conquered death and grave
Your authority
No power can withstand
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, Jesus
Name above all names
Jesus, Jesus
You reign forevermore
Hell trembles, heaven proclaims
Beautiful
Glorious
Mighty
Holy
There is power
In the name of Jesus
Lord, You have disarmed them
The rulers and authorities of this world
You made a public spectacle of them
Triumphing over them by the cross
Oh, Son of the Most High God
You conquered death and grave
Your authority
No power can withstand
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, Jesus
Name above all names
Jesus, Jesus
You reign forevermore
Hell trembles, heaven proclaims
Beautiful
Glorious
Mighty
Holy
There is power
In the name of Jesus
Jesus, all authority is Yours in heaven and on earth
You will place every enemy beneath Your feet
And upon Your robe they will see the words
King of Kings and Lord of Lords
Oh, Son of the Most High God
You conquered death and grave
Your authority
No power can withstand
Oh, oh, oh, oh, Jesus
Name above all names
Jesus, Jesus
You reign forevermore
Hell trembles, heaven proclaims
Beautiful
Glorious
Mighty
Holy
There is power
In the name of Jesus
Oh, glorious Jesus
Yours is the kingdom
The power
And the glory
Forevermore
